Admissions

If you need surgery, the Admissions Department will arrange the earliest possible appointment. Your surgery date could be scheduled weeks or even months in advance, and you will receive a letter confirming the date and time. You will be notified ahead of time about your surgery, allowing you to prepare for your stay and organise the support needed for your recovery at home.

Admission Department Opening Times

Monday – Friday

We are committed to enhancing the patient experience, which is why we assign each patient a specific admission time. This time will be listed in your appointment letter. Please arrive punctually to avoid delays.

  • Patients attending for Day-case injections are admitted from 7.0am
  • Patients for admission and surgery who do not require an overnight stay at the Hospital are admitted from 7.00 am
  • Patients for admission, surgery and inpatient care are admitted from 7.00 am

Sunday/Bank Holidays

  • Some patients may be asked to check in the day before surgery and special arrangements are put in place to manage their admission.

If you cannot attend, please contact the Hospital at your earliest convenience to reschedule. With sufficient notice, we may be able to offer your cancelled appointment to another patient awaiting treatment.

Rescheduling Appointments

If you wish to reschedule or cancel an appointment, please contact the Admissions Department:

  1. +353 (1) 814 0334
  2. admissions@nohc.ie

Failure to Communicate Cancellation

If you miss an appointment and do not contact us, your details will be removed from the waiting list as per the National Waiting List Protocol.

Please arrive at the Admissions Department at the allocated time. The receptionist will check your details, contact information and ‘designated support person’ or ‘nominated representative’ to ensure they are complete and accurate. You will then be admitted and assigned to a hospital ward.

The nursing staff will check your details again, review your medications, and ensure that you have followed preoperative instructions.

A member of your medical team will talk through your procedure and ask you to sign a Surgical Consent form. They will also confirm your expected discharge date so that you can plan your journey home.
